Nowhere Man

The Axis Institute for World Domination has been blown up and the founder, Dr. Phineas Darkkon, is dead. Prosper English (who enrolled Cadel in the first place) is in jail for numerous offenses, and Cadel Piggott is stuck in a foster home with round-the-clock surveillance so he'll be safe until he testifies against him. But nobody seems to want Cadel. Not Fiona, his social worker, and not Saul Greeniaus, the detective assigned to protect him.

What is Genius Squad?

When he is approached by the head of Genius Squad, a group formed to investigate GenoME, one of Darkkon's pet projects, Cadel is unsure they can offer him a real home and all the technology his heart desires. But why can't he bring himself to tell Saul what the group is really up to? And how can Genius Squad protect Cadel once Prosper English breaks out of jail?

The Bottom Line

Just as exciting and fast-paced as its prequel, Genius Squad is a winner. You'll have to pay attention as the story unfolds to not miss a single detail. Full of computer techno-speak, wonderfully clever tricks, and sometimes confusing subplots, this is one adventure that is packed with action from beginning to end. Cadel's character is a bit more grown up, and his actions and feelings reflect his new maturity, which will especially appeal to the older teen. This is one series that is sure to hook even the most reluctant reader, especially with an ending that is wide open to accommodate another sequel.
