The great minds behind the Star Wars franchise decided to give the animated-film universe a shot as they continue unraveling the Star Wars legend. The action in The Clone Wars takes place between the modern Star Wars prequels Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and Episode III: Return of the Sith, so this isn't a sequel or a prequel really, but kind of an in-the-middle-quel.At War
In this flick the Republic is still at war with the Separatists and it's access to the Galactic Rim depends on pleasing Jabba the Hutt, one of the most memorable and disgustingly cool Star Wars baddies ever. Enter our faithful hero, who eventually turns into Darth Vader, of course. It's Anakin Skywalker and his new Padwan pupil, Ahsoka Tano to rescue the little Hutt, and while all of this is going on, Obi Wan Kenobi and everyone's favorite little green Jedi master Yoda, to lead the resistance against the Separatists. It's a classic Star Wars space-race against time, and how will it all unfold?The Bottom Line
For a lot of people a new Star Wars film is the best news of the year whether it's live-action, retro, or even starring Jar Jar Binks. The challenge of the film is that you already know what comes after this episode, so there won't be any surprises as far as who lives or dies in the heat of the battle. The first try at animation is pretty cool. Altogether this is a fine way to start a new series of Star Wars, but the old-school Star Wars crowd might not find anything too revolutionary.Rating:
