Ben Roethlisberger - Ohio Upbringing
Ben's life started off rough with his
parents divorcing when he was a toddler, and his
mom passing away in a car accident when he was eight. As a kid in tiny Findlay, Ohio, he was a better
basketball player than he was a football player. It wasn't until his senior year in high school that Ben showed what a natural quarterback he was. In his first start as a senior for
Findlay High School, he threw for six touchdowns. He ended the year passing over 4,000 yards and 54 touchdowns. His success continued at
Miami of Ohio University, finishing up with an All-American career.
Ben Roethlisberger - Instant Fame
Ben was drafted 11th overall in the 2004
NFL Draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had an immediate impact as he led the
Steelers to an amazing 14-1 record and an appearance in the AFC Championship Game. He was also named
Rookie of the Year. Although his second season started off slow, he helped the Steelers make an improbable late-season run to win the 2005
Super Bowl - making Ben the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl ring. That summer, Ben was involved in a serious
motorcycle accident. Luckily, he was able to recover from his
injuries and play another good year in 2006. That season, he passed for a career high of 3,513 yards. Despite the good numbers, Ben failed to lead the Steelers to the playoffs.
Ben Roethlisberger - The Future
At just 25 years old, Ben Roethlisberger has plenty of years left in the
NFL. In just his fourth year, he hopes to lead Pittsburgh back to the top in 2007. He is one of the toughest and
most skilled quarterbacks in the game. Experts say he plays
best under pressure and having won a Super Bowl at 23 proves that!
